Nitrogen Family

Nitrogen is in the 2nd period and is in the 15th group.

The elements in group 15 are nitrogen, phosphorus, arsenic, antimony, and bismuth.

Our elements are solids and a gas.

Some physical properties for nitrogen are that it is colorless, odorless, and is similar in appearance to water when it is liquid. Also nitogen is a relatively inert gas. Finally nitrogen melts at 210 celsius.

Some chemical properties are that nitrogen forms compounds through biological activity, at high temperatures, or at moderate temperature with acids of catalysts. Also another chemical property would be that nitrogen forms nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide.

Some interesting facts about nitrogen are that nitrogen makes up 78% of the atmosphere. Also the element seems so inert that Lacvaisier named it azote meaning " without life." Another fact is that its compounds are so vital for food, fertilizers, and explosives.

A couple uses for nitrogen are that it makes up light bulbs and can be used to make explosives.
